Use this brainstorming and reflection tool to begin exploring your philosophy of academic advising.

Are you an academic advisor who is eager to develop a well-defined academic advising philosophy? We have a special treat for you! Here is a new resource that will guide you on the path to crafting your own advising philosophy.

While the worksheet serves as a standalone resource, it is actually derived from a much more intensive packet that I use during a three-hour workshop on drafting advising philosophies. This condensed version captures the essence of the workshop, providing you with an opportunity for self-reflection and planning in a more accessible format.

The Academic Advising Statement of Philosophy Drafting Tool is designed to help you explore and articulate your personal approach to academic advising. It will prompt you to reflect on your reasons for the work you do, what you hope students will learn, and your inspirations.

The worksheet is designed to be user-friendly, with fill-in sections on page one and guidance on page two. Please note that it can be used both individually and collaboratively. I encourage you to share it with your colleagues and utilize it in group settings to foster meaningful discussions and mutual learning. Completing the worksheet individually and then coming together as a group will provide a unique opportunity for advisors to connect and discover new perspectives.

Download the 2-page worksheet and subscribe to ensure that you don't miss out on future resources.
